KG 2

Serving as a link between Kindergarten and elementary school, KG2 is a year of great importance for your child.
It is a year that can be highlighted by a couple of new skills they will be improving on and subjects they will be learning about.
Phonics
  • Improving comprehension of the sounds each letter produces, as well as the use of some of them in combination to produce their own unique sounds.
  • We use phonics, sounding out words, to help your young ones learn how to decode words by breaking them down into letter-based sounds.
  • We use a fun and approachable method called Jolly Phonics to encourage their improvement utilizing songs, hand gestures, and writing to make the experience more enjoyable.
  • Ultimately learn to fully read, write, and annunciate their newly learned vocabulary by doing so.
Reading
  • Making use of phonics and the memorization of *sight words in tandem to comprehend written phrases and sentences. *(Words that are more challenging that might not follow the standard letter-sound rules, are often referred to as sight words, examples of such are; of, the, what, and so on).
  • By January, students will have acquired formative reading skills and will participate in our school reading program.
  • With access to a collection of over 400 books, your children will begin their reading journey with us.
  • Providing a variety of material starting from level A to above and the initial skills, you can expect your child to have read approximately 60 books by the end of the year.
  • To further improve students’ foundations, we incorporate weekly concepts that are applied to all subjects.
  • Such concepts are sourced from Reading Wonders by McGraw-Hill; an American-based textbook that is used for KG2.
Writing
  • Preparing for 1st-grade writing, students will learn how to write small words and even some short sentences.

  • As the students continue to improve, they will be provided with slightly more challenging writing assignments about a variety of familiar topics.

  • Students will not be expected to have perfectly mastered spelling as it usually takes several years to do so, however, they will definitely improve it and more so their letter formation (size and shape) and ability to write.

Mathematics

Step by step, preparing your young ones for the challenges of first-grade mathematics, they shall be introduced to a few different concepts. These include such concepts as measurement, basic geometry (understanding shapes), and algebra (addition and subtraction).

Science and Social Studies

Students will be introduced to a variety of topics integrating the science of the world and the studies of its social matters.

  • The weather and its relation to the seasons and what we wear accordingly

Special Subjects provide your children with a more comprehensive base of education. They will also participate in the following classes:
Physical Education

We hope to instill enjoyment of physical activity, as well as an understanding of the importance of maintaining physical fitness through various activities that are mostly fun but also present them with a slight challenge.

Library

Reading is of much importance to your children’s development and future comprehension abilities. Library classes provide them with an allocated time where reading is their sole focus. At times there will be group reading sessions and at others, they will be granted more freedom to explore their own interests.

Art

By learning about lines, shapes, colors, drawing, painting, and other crafts, students will get a chance to explore their artistic side.

Music

Students will be introduced to the beginnings of musical theory, the use of instruments, singing, and ultimately practicing for and executing a performance.

We would also like to highlight a couple of concepts we focus on to make your child’s experience more enjoyable and beneficial:
Social and Emotional Development – Seeking to guide students onto a path towards becoming considerate and helpful individuals, our teachers help them learn how to communicate healthily. Behavioral choices are explained to them as green(go) and red(stop), this places the emphasis on giving students opportunities to self-correct and change their behavior. It is important for them to grasp the idea of communicating positively about how they feel rather than reacting in a negative fashion as it will assist in their further development.
Creativity and Hands-On Learning – We believe in encouraging students to think about what they learn and apply it in different ways that might relate to them more. Whether that is through arts and crafts, songs that incorporate the lesson or just utilizing their powerful imaginations. The more interesting and relatable the information they are being taught about is, the more likely it is that they will retain it.
